From Mrs W. G. Bignell, 122 Stout Street, comes this picture of the visit of the then Governor General, Lord Jellicoe, to Gisborne on April 21, 1921, Taken in the Botanical Gardens, it also shows the old bridge with arch in the background. Some of the young poplar trees which in later years were to become a bone of contention over their removal are also visible.
