Golden Weddings

Mr Mitchell, who came from Ireland in 1912, was a salesman for J. J. Niven & Co. for 40 years. Mrs Mitchell was born and bred at Te Karaka. In his younger days Mr Mitchell was a keen association football player while Mrs Mitchell has been a member of the C. W. I., the St John's Church Guild and the Mothers' Union.

Mr and Mrs A. H. (Fred) Barwick, 10 Kelvin Street, celebrated their golden wedding recently. Very well known in the city as an auctioneer, Mr Barwick, with his father, started Barwick's Auction Mart in 1924. Mr Barwick is a gold star member of the N.Z.R.S.A., and a life member of the Gisborne R.S.A., the United Services Bowling Club, and the former 30,000 Club. Mrs Barwick originally came from Otoko where her people were farmers, while Mr Barwick's parents farmed at Ngatapa. They are pictured with their family. From left, Ray (Matawai), Isobel (Mrs Middleton, Matamata), Don, and Joyce (Mrs Sherriff).

Also celebrating 50 years of married life are Mr and Mrs C. Mitchell of 162 Ormond Road, who were the first couple to be married in St John's Church, Mangapapa.
