Returning to live in England after spending nine years in Gisborne is Johnny Simpson, with his wife Jean and son Martin. They were resident at 73 Awapuni Road, and Johnny was head timber machinist at Holts before heading back to the other side of the world. John was well known, of course, through his connections with the R.S.A. Tin Hat Club (see pages 48,49).

Traffic Officer Rangi Moeke, who trained in Wellington, is now stationed in that city. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Sam Moeke, formerly of Hiruharama (Ruatoria), and now of 461 Childers Road.

Judy Ruru, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Ruru, Uawa Parade, Tolaga Bay,' is now community nursing at the Napier Public Hospital. She was one of the contestants in a Nurses' Queen Quest run by the Napier Plunket Society as part of that society's annual fund-raising efforts. Judy gained third place in the contest.

On promotion to the Mangapapa School from the Elgin School is Miss E. (Betty) Dickinson as supervisor, junior classes. She has been supervisor of the junior classes at Elgin since the school opened 16 years ago - a foundation member, so to speak! A farewell presentation was made at a function held at Ulverstone. From left, Mr Frank Christoffersen (school committee chairman), Miss Dickinson, Mr Des Charteris (headmaster), and Mrs J. Tamatea (P.T.A.).

Retiring after 11 years on the Elgin school committee is Mr Lou Beattie.

Off on a trip to Fiji, organised by members of the Patutahi parish, are the Rev. and Mrs B. Oxen-bridge. The Oxenbridges, who retired recently, have been at Patutahi for the past 15⅓ years. Prior to that they were in Fiji for eight years and now, on this trip, will be able to greet old friends and see their former parish.
