Attempted Blaze of Glory

The old Gisborne Hotel, on the corner of Childers Road and Lowe Street, nearly ended its life in a blaze of glory, but was thwarted in the attempt by prompt action from the Fire Brigade.

Demolition work had already begun on the empty, 100-year-old building. Smouldering material was believed to have blazed up and started the fire.
