Poverty Bay Takes first Award

The Charles Williams Memorial Award given in 1970 for the first time has been won by Poverty Bay. It is "For Commendable Achievement in Theory Examination" and actually goes to the referees' association with the highest percentage of marks attained in the referees' N. Z. theory examination.

Charles Williams was a man who devoted his life to rugby. After his playing days were over he became a Wellington representative referee, and was convener of the rugby laws committee. He was also a life member of the N.Z.R.R. Association.
