Forty Years on for P.B. Circle

April 14, 1931, was the birth date of the Poverty Bay Gardening Circle and on the same date this year members celebrated the 40th birthday of the circle.

An afternoon party was held at Ulverstone to mark the circle's fourth decade.

At the cake cutting were, from left, the Mayoress, Mrs H. H. Barker, Mrs E. Phillips (secretary for the past 14 years), Mrs E. Woodrow (the only remaining foundation member a life member, and the first secretary of the circle), Mrs G. J. Tyer (president), and Mrs F. Gregory (guest speaker).

Two arrangements 1931 (left) and 1971 were on display to show how styles change, even in flower arrangements.
