Gala With a Difference

The Patutahi School gala day was one which was really different in that the highlight of the day was the Patutahi Pushcart Derby.

A series of races was held on a specially made track. Carts had to check in officially and the whole programme was run with clockwork precision.

Winners of the father and son event were Mr John Stevens and his son Peter.

Announcer for the programme was Mr D. G. Millar.

Ehetere Wharepapa and Wendy Brodie were the only "ladies" to race.

"Mechanics" Wayne McFarlane and Joseph Kouka push driver Reece Lister and his cart on to the track.
