Mr Arthur O'Donnell is Gisborne's new Public Relations Officer. Gisborne born and bred, Mr O'Donnell has spent the past 17 years in Sweden, mainly in the tourist industry. He worked as guide, had his own travel company, and then amalgamated with the Stockholm Travel Association, He speaks Swedish, German and French as well as English. His wife is Swedish and they have two children.

Mr Peter Sharp, formerly assistant secretary to the Cook Hospital Board now has the position as secretary. His appointment followed after the death of the former secretary, Mr Jack Betteridge, late last year.

Mr Bruce Thorburn has been appointed to the 'position of assistant secretary. Mr Thorburn has been the board's accountant for the past nine years. Before that he was accountant at the Waiapu Hospital for six years.

Mr Martin Lynch has resigned as treasurer of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union, an office he has held for the past 20 years, and a position to which he was elected after he gave up playing.

The new president of the Poverty Bay Rugby Union was elected at the annual general meeting held recently. He is Mr Jack Richards, a former P.B. representative back. Mr Richards played rep rugby in 1946-48-50 and 51. He goes into office for two years.

The famous All Black, George Nepia, legendary full-back with the 1924 "In-vincibles", was in town recently; in his capacity as demonstration i salesman for the Norge Company of Masterton where he now lives. He is pictured in store at Columbus Appliances where he is seen with the manager, Mr Syd Parkes.

Mr A. J.(Moss) Wildish, 71, retired recently after a 53 year association with the transport industry. The career of Mr Wildish has covered every form of transport on the East Coast, from horse-drawn vehicle to modern motor truck. He retires as manager of Gisborne Transport Ltd, but will remain as chairman of the board of directors, both positrons being held by him since 1962.

Mr Alf Burnnand, after 31 years as wharfinger at the port of Gisborne, retired at the end of March. Responsible for cargo storage at the port. Mr Burnnand has seen many changes, both in the type of ship calling at Gisborne and in the equipment used there. He and his wife intend to take off on a-tour around New Zealand later this year.
