Old Folks' Birthdays

Members of the Old Folk's Association had a very enjoyable afternoon at their March meeting.

90 - Not Out!

Mrs Amy Shaw, 15 Hunter Street, celebrated her 90th birthday recently. Mrs Shaw, the widow of the late Reverend Shaw of Hastings, has lived in Gisborne for the past 26 years.. She is pictured with her daughter, Mrs Alison Fitzjames of Auckland.

Since 1902

Yes! For the past 69 years Dick Beaufoy and Albert Bulst have been friends. They are seen here cutting a party cake when they celebrated their 84th and 85th birthdays respectively. Both men spent their working lives at Matawai before retiring to gisborne where they live only a block from each other. Naturally, their interest over the years, apart from their farms, have been dog trials, tennis and bowls.

Generous Gift

A most generous gift of nearly 100 really beautiful books was made to the library recently by Mr George Emms. They are from the personal collection of his late wife, Mollie, and are a tribute to her memory. Mrs Emms's gardening interest centred on the iris, and about 80 of the volumes are on gardening, all of them with beautiful colour plates. A diverse interest is contained in the remaining 20 or so. A truly wonderful gift to the library!
