The first open tournament to be held by Gisborne's R.S.A. Bowling Club saw a Gisborne Club rink win the Fred Barwick Cup. This was the first occasion on which the trophy has been competed for.
Seated with Mr Barwick is the winning rink, F. Williams (skip), R. Harries, F. Matthewson, H. Jackson. At rear are the runners-up, V. Holst, H. Oates (skip), W. Raggett, and K. Woods.

When you go to Brisbane, it seems to be great shakes to wear snakes—or so it would appear from these pictures taken during the holidays.
Three local boys and seven girls made Australian holiday trip under Y.M.C.A. plan. Girls were Tut Dodge, Judith Stevens (left), Valeria Redstone, Lyndell Jones, Veronica Field, Barbara Vickers (Gisborne) and Shirley Smyth (Ruatoria). The boys were Irvin Open-shaw (right), of Gisborne, Stewart Smyth (Ruatoria) and Richard Grace (Matawai).
Mr R. J. O'Kane went along as supervisor.
