Life-Saving Demonstration

On a hot Sunday afternoon in January, Gisborne surf life-saving club Members turned on a demonstration at Waikanae Beach for the general public, which turned out in large numbers for the occasion. The four clubs-Waikanae, Midway, Wainui, and Gisborne Ladies'-ail took part, and while there was no surf to test their stamina, they gave a very creditable and highly interesting display.

Rigid demonstration drill for rescue work is well shown in this series of pictures taken during the six-man rescue event.

Especially high commendation was won by girls of the Gisborne Ladies' Club, who competed on equal terms with the men, and except in swimming marks scored comparable figures throughout.

Surf-skis have been demonstrated to be invaluable in rescue work, and the carnival programme included an event under this heading, which was won by D. Lamont (Waikanae) (left), with R. Read (Midway) (right) second.
