Six men retired from service-with the Poverty Bay Electric Power Board at the end of last year. Presentations were made by the chairman of the board, Mr Nolan Richardson, at a staff function. From left, in front, Messrs Norm Watson (servicing, 33 years), Ted Longdill (clerk of works, 7 years), Bruce Douglas (lines, 32 years), Wally Neilson (oldest serving member, engineer, 44 years), George Burrows (electrician, 37 years), and Jim Tagg (East Coast Electrician, 10 years). At back are the speakers who are, from left, Les Rasmussen (chief engineer), Jim Douglas (managing secretary), Nolan Richardson (board chairman), and Albie Smith (chairman of the social committee which arranged the function).

Another retirement at the end of last year was that of Mr Doug Maxwell after 40 years of primary school teaching, 35 of them in Gisborne. From left, at a function in his honour, are Messrs Bob Briant (chairman Te Wharau school committee-Mr Maxwell's last school), Brian Bull (representing the Hawkes Bay Education Board), Mr and Mrs Maxwell, and Mr Jock White (on behalf of the other schools in the district).

William and Beatrice Dymond of 170 Lytton Road, celebrated 65 years of marriage recently. They came from England 50 years ago and after four years at Tokomaru Bay have been in Gisborne ever since. Mr Dymond was an employee of the Gisborne Harbour Board for many years. Here Mrs Dymond playfully .helps hubby to a piece of the delicious anniversary cake.

Celebrating 66 years of wedded bliss are Sam and May McIver of 27 Kingsley Road. The Mclvers have lived in Gisborne for the past seven years. Both were born and bred in Wellington where Mr Mclver spent his working life as a printer and they are pictured here in their very neat and colourful garden, all of which they keep themselves.
