A local lad making good is Jim Croskery who makes surfboards to order at his factory in Disraeli Street and has two other men working with him to keep up with production.

The roughly shaped polyurethane foam boards are imported to the factory where Jim shapes each one to its required measurements.

After cutting out, the board is sanded down to its final shape and then finished off by hand.

Bennie Hutchings is a past master at glassing. Covered with fibreglass, the whole board is treated with laminating resin, thus giving the board its strength. This operation is carried out under temperature controlled conditions, for maximum efficiency.

Smoothing-off with sander is given by Alan Higgins.

Fins for the boards are cut out from 30 layers of bonded fibreglass.
