Gisborae Rotary and Gisborne West Rotary Clubs held their combined annual rural-urban evening recently and 260 Rotarians and farmers heard the address of the guest speaker, Dr. C. P. McMeekan. Dr McMeekan is a former director of the Ruakura Research Centre.

Off on promotion to manage the Tauranga branch of A. Christie Ltd., is Merv Jury. He is pictured with his wife Kath, son Peter and daughters Robyn (back) and Clair. Merv, who has been to the fore in local soccer, as New Zealand referee, broadcaster, and schoolboy soccer coach, has also been prominent in other sports. The Jurys have spent all. their lives in Gisborne and will be missed in the community.

At an end-of-season function held by the Marist Brothers Old Boys' Rugby Football Club, the premier trophies for the season were presented. Recipients were, from left, third graders–Barry Mabey (Jim Delaney Memorial Cup f6r best player on or off the field), Philip Bothamley (Mike Vaughan Memorial Cup for most improved player); juniors–Joe O'Donoghue (Norm Mabey Memorial Cup for most consistent player and best team spirit), John Duckworth (Shaskey Memorial Cup for most improved player); seniors–David Boyle (Brick Bradford Memorial Cup for best player on and off the field), and Brian Callaghan (Jim and Hettie Eadie Cup for most consistent player).
