The Gisborne Astronomical Society is running a series of open days when members of the public are able to go to the society's site, on the top of Kaiti Hill, and view the surrounding area through one of their powerful telescopes. The strength of the scope brings up distant landmarks and makes interesting viewing.

Mr Archie Craill, 685 Aberdeen Road, found the beginnings of this wasp nest on an orange tree in his garden. The wasps must have been taken in by a quirk of nature as they did not persevere with the task very long. Mr Craill holds the beginnings of the nest which was started on a leaf on the orange tree.

Amongst the many ways to make money during the Olympic Pool Queen Carnival, one of the most novel, yet most appropriate, must be this swimming pool being raffled by the Jaycees for their queen. The pool is located on a site next to Gisborne Motors.
