The Young Ideas

Young people from Wairoa through Gisborne and the East Coast turned up in good numbers for the two-day Youth Conference held at the Boys' High rectory on August 22 and 23. Paper were presented by Professor J. Shallcrass (a senior lecturer in education at Victoria University) and James K. Baxter (the well known poet). A panel (comprising Mayor Harry Barker, Member of Parliament Esme Tombleson, and Victoria University student Peter Boshier) held an open forum with the discussion centreing on "what Gisborne has to offer youth".
