A presentation of $100 was made by the Gisborne branch of the Dental Nurses' Institute to the Intellectually Handicapped Children Society. The money came from a ball organised by the dental nurses. From left: Chris Shirley, Barbara Milligan (Institute secretary), Mrs Nora Steed (I.H.C. president), and Mr Eddie Houlihan, the new supervisor at the Donnelly Training Centre where the presentation was made.

At a very successful Air Force Association social held recently, members Bill McGrory and Ray Bull were presented with silver stars. These awards, not bestowed lightly, are given in recognition of outstanding service to the organisation. From left: Bill and Jewell McGrory, Keith Tarry (association president), and Ray and Jean Bull. Bill is vice-president of the association and Ray is on the social committee at present.

The Gisborne Astronomical Society has been given an eight-and-a-half inch reflecting telescope. Studies of distant planets and stars can be made more easily now. This telescope was given to the society by Mr Michael Costello before he returned to England recently, and is a great boost to the society. The public will have opportunities to use the telescope on public viewing nights. These are held from time to time, weather permitting. Peering into the scope (and outer space) is Roger Bodle. From left, on the ground, are Terry Thomsen, Philip Thomsen, Colin Mazengarb, Peter Mulligan, Leslie Clare and Richard Lee.
