The Big Fishermen

From the Gisborne Underwater Club captain, John Williams, come these pictures of some of the highlights of the club's very successful season. Many club and New Zealand records were set during the past year of underwater fishing.

Pip Barker holds the club record for a kingfish. This monster of 65 lbs was speared at Lottin Point.

John Mazengarb with New Zealand record trevally of 15 lbs, also speared at Lottin Point.

Bruce Grant (together with John Mazengarb) gained third place in the New Zealand junior spearfishing champs held at the Hen and Chickens Islands, Whangarei. This 24 lb snapper took the club record and also gained the biggest snapper trophy and best fish. At the champs John caught a kingfish of 24½ lbs which took the biggest fish award.

Rex Proctor (Napier) and Wade Greaves with kingfish weighing over 60 lbs which were speared on the club's first dive at Aerial Reef.
