Approximately $5000 was collected for the I.H.C. Appeal in Gisborne. As well as the folk out collecting, those at headquarters had a busy day sorting and counting the incoming collection bags. Some of those hard at it were, from left: Paddy Pilbrow (treasurer), Mrs Elizabeth Ballard, Mrs Nora Steed (president), Tom Mitchell, Norm Davies (vice-president), Carol Kinge, Mrs Alison Ferguson and, in front, Roger and Peter Davies.

While in Te Araroa Mrs Walker was presented by Mrs R. McConnell with this necklace made of dentalius shells. These are very rare and are estimated to be about 25,000,000 years old. They were exposed over the years as the cliffs in the Te Araroa area eroded.

On an inspection tour of Gisborne and East Coast tourist potential recently was the Minister of Tourism, Mr Walker. A quick visit was paid by the party to the Cook Memorial Plaza before finally leaving Gisborne. From left: Mr R. S.
