Bred By The Sea

Miss Winifred Lysnar was interviewed by WNTV-1 when the unit was in Gisborne recently. She was asked about her recollections of Gisborne when she was a child, and about the part-Percheron horses she used to breed. Horses have played a great part in Miss Lysnar's life, and she bred part-Pereherons for nearly 30 years.

About thirty years ago the original stallion and two mares were imported from South Australia. Subsequent crossing with light mares produced a true utility type, the horses being splendid station hacks as well as being extra good Jumpers. Among some of the latter which were well known in New Zealand a few years ago were Soda, Pearl Harbour, and View Hello. In Australia notables from this strain were Ocean Foam (one of the Australian representatives at the Tokyo Olympics) and Quarter (said to have been the most consistent jumper in South Australia over a period of ten years).
