From Mr A. F. Salmon, formerly of Gisborne and now of 3 Culwick Road, Mission Bay, Auckland, comes this picture of travel around the district in the early days, by car. This service car of "Wilkinson's" was photographed on Seymour's Flat (a few miles north of Whangara) in 1922. The man standing on this side of the car is Sonny Gardner, driver of the second car. Captain Salmon is on the right in the; middle seat. The car, a Packard, was on its way to Hicks Bay.
