Pictures From The Past

From Wally Burch, 633 Gladstone Road, comes this picture of one of the biggest blokes New Zeaianders would ever have seen. Taken in 1941, the picture shows Frank White of Blenheim at the age of 17. He then weighed 36 stone, was six feet tail, had a chest of 74 inches and a thigh of 50 inches.

Included in this photo of the installation of telephone wires outside the old Tolaga Bay Post Office in the early days is Mr Harry Findlay, now of Moana Road, Okitu. He is in the centre "up the pole", The manual exchange has since been replaced by automatic equipment which was installed in 1966.

Also from Wally Burch is this shot of the march past of the Gisborne City Band in the 1927 golden jubilee parade. Members of the band included Joe Murton, Hector Nunns, Bert Sibire, Arthur Adcroft and Wally Burch.
