Peter Kururangi, son of Mr and Mrs J. Kururangi, 2 MacDonald Street, was awarded the Hugh Jones Memorial Trophy for the super heavyweight lift at the New Zealand Amateur Weightlifting championships held at Christchurch. Peter was the only competitor from the Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty and Poverty Bay area.

The St. John Ambulance team which took part in the Watersiders' Competitions in Napier early in November, and more recently in the North Island championships also held in Hawkes Bay. From left are instructor Ian Duske, Ray Owen (No.l), Maurice Edwards (No.2), John Stothers (No.3), and Charlie Timu (No.4). The team took tnird place in the four-man team test for the Rothman Cup in the watersiders' competition. In the championships they were fourth in the team test for the Greater Hastings Cup, the improvisation event, and Ray Owen was also fourth in the Leadership Cup event.

Tom Sawyer, 6 Dominey Street, is off to Suva where he is to be company manager for Tip Top Ice Cream operations. Tom, who has been in Gisborne with the company for the past six years, now goes to Fiji for a further term of six years. Tom is pictured with his wife Patricia and sons Jason (centre left) and Daniel.

The new gates to Rugby Park were completed a little while ago and now give the park an eminent entrance.
