Ross O'Connell who was a runner-up at the New Zealand champs won the cup for the Most Improved Boxer of the Year. This was presented by Joe Sharp.

Off to the big smoke for the first time in their lives are these boys and girls from the Huanui and Tauwhareparae schools way inland from Tolaga Bay. They were on their way through to Auckland by bus for a week's educational tour. Coming through Gisborne they stopped off and made a call to the pupils of Kaiti. The top picture shows the boys and girls outside the bus. On the left is Teresa Wilson with the tour mascot "Mama Cass".
