The boxing gloves have been put away for the season and at a couple of gyms the trainers turned on an end-of-season spread for the boys.

The bottom picture shows the Kaiti boys and girls waving goodbye to the travellers.

At Dan O'Connell's those who enjoyed themselves were, from left: Dan O'Connell, Joe Sharp, Laurie Holmes, David Isaacs, Ross O'Connell, Spencer Holmes, Nigel Turnbull, Brian Marchioni and Herb Whitely.

Ross O'Connell who was a runner-up at the New Zealand champs won the cup for the Most Improved Boxer of the Year. This was presented by Joe Sharp.

At Ray Gear's Takitimu gym there were plenty more smiling faces before tucking into the spread. Off to the big smoke for the first time in their lives are these boys and girls from the Huanui and Tauwhareparae schools way inland from Tolaga Bay. They were on their way through to Auckland by bus for a week's educational tour. Coming through Gisborne they stopped off and made a call to the pupils of Kaiti. The top picture shows the boys and girls outside the bus. On the left is Teresa Wilson with the tour mascot "Mama Cass".
