The Official Function

The official government function took place at Rugby Park where speeches were made, entertainment provided by the Waihirere Maori Concert Party, singing by the massed choir of school pupils, and a guard of honour drawn from representatives of the different navies in port. Music came from the combined bands of the Royal New Zealand Navy, Her Majesty's Royal Marines 3rd Commando Brigade, and the corps of drums of the WRNZNS.
