Raft River Race

Teams from various scout groups in the city entered their craft in a race up the river, from the railway bridge to Anzac Park. There was plenty of energy put into the event which was won jointly by teams from Te Hapara and Kelvin.

Equal first was the Polaris team from Te Hapara who are seen bringing their craft to shore.

The team, below left, is, from left: Roger Newport, Paul Russell, Ross Whitfield and Keith Hughes.

Kea of Kelvin were the others to gain first place equal. From left: Hugh Maxwell, Mark Hutchings, Ross McKegg and David Earl.

The prize for the best constructed craft in the race was won by, from left, Mason Kaa, Brett Harris, Donald Emms, Wi Tuhou, Tony Davidson, and Peter Godwin (absent).

The prizes were presented by Captain McRae.
