Fourteen miles from Tikitiki (inland) lies a wealth of talent in the person of young Maria Haenga. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Kite Haenga of Tauwharerata Station. Maria has been painting for about two years. Two of these paintings are of Mt. Hikurangi. One hangs at the Waikanae Motor Camp and the other Was given to Smith and Smith Ltd. Maria is now working on another water colour of Hikurangi to send to the Mexico City Museum of Fine Arts. Maria also writes to the "You say.." and "Now you Ask..." columns of the Weekly News and so far has collected more than seven dollars in par fees. She is pictured with her sister Pamela.
