Thrilling Basketball

Teams from Auckland, Wairoa, the East Coast plus local teams took part in the battle for the Bowie Cup on June 2. The final results were Paikea (1), 15, and HSOG (1), 14. Pictured on this page are some of the competitors who took part in the tourhament.

Competitors travelling the longest distance to the tournament were Auckland's Archers. An unusual feature about this team is that two of the players are daughters of the captain and another of the players is the coach's wife. Members of the team are Murray Hewitt (coach), Catherine Taylor, Sheryl Nixon (daughter), Mercia O'Brien, Anthea Seagar, Dianne Hewitt, Gayleen Debey (daughter), Frances Felton, and Thelma Nixon (captain).

The Tokomaru District High School "A" team. The players are Jane Taiapa (captain), Huia Newton, Ngahuia Kururangi, Huinga Riki, Nelly Ward, ' Sharon Tichborne, and Susie Forrester.

Waikohu (2) players were kept on their toes with the fast play of the GMC (1) players.
