The Gisborne Photo News

News of Photo News

"Photo News" is still something of a novelty, which is excuse enough to devote our editorial this month to talking about ourselves—a very human failing at any time. The news about "Photo News" contains some good things for readers.

The first is that this is likely to be the last issue to be printed on inferior paper. We have perfected our plant and processes to the point where we can produce illustrations equal to the best, but all our good work goes west on the printing press because our present shipment of paper is sub-standard. Our next shipment, due shortly, will be the same paper as is used for "Life" magazine, and when we get used to it, we think you will be pleasantly surprised.

The second good news is that our next issue will be a "special". We are busy gathering together what we intend to be the best set of pictures ever published on Gisborne and district. This bigger (76 pages) and better (art paper throughout) issue will be on sale on December 15.

"Photo News" remains, as far as we know, the only local pictorial magazine in the world. We keep getting inquiries from all over New Zealand, indicating the general interest of people who seem to think Gisborne is lucky and why can't they have a "Photo News" too. We know, of course, that a high proportion of the many thousands of copies we are printing each month travel far beyond the borders of Poverty Bay, to other parts of the country, and overseas. It is satisfying to be told that they are good advertisements for Gisborne. They seem to think so in Southland, where the Progress League wants to launch a similar project to promote interest in that province.

Recently we installed a new press, which doubled our printing power, and in future we hope to be able to satisfy the full demand for "Photo News" and extend the number of our agents, especially in the country.

Remember, our Christmas special will be on sale December 15, and our first issue for the New Tear, on February 9, will carry a full photographic coverage of the City Celebrations.
