Gisborne's grand old lady, Miss Catherine Sherriff, celebrated her one-hundred-and-first birthday recently. Living up at Ward 6, Cook Hospital, Miss Sherriff was visited by Red Cross members on the morning of the big day. Presenting Miss Sherriff with some small gifts are, from left, Teresa O'Donnell, Susan Naden, Miss Mary Walker and Mrs I. Holland.

Recent visitors to Gisborne in the course of an exchange scheme were a group of North American Indians. The visitors are on a friendly study tour of New Zealand while a group of Maori people are on a visit to the U.S.A., each seeing how the other lives.
The Indians are pictured with some of the people who billeted them while they were in Gisborne. From left, at back: Philip Cook, John Kaua, Bill Alcaida, Percy Brewster, Jess Sixkiller, Henry Lardelli, Roger Tsabetsaye; Julius Ferris, Ernie Stevens. In front: George Marsden, Raymond Kane, Pare Jones, Seferino Tenorio and Joe Sando.
