The first club of the Tolaga Bay Rugby Football subunion to play for the Whakarua Cup at Ruatoria in 1927. They were narrowly defeated by the Ruatoria City Club. The late Karu Puhipuhi (left), Mura Rehua (back) now a patient in Cook Hospital, Jimmy Thompson (right), and in front, Te Wirihana Wiriwiri (deceased), Messrs Puhipuhi, Thompson and Wiriwiri were on Gallipoli, and in Malta and France with the Pioneer Battalion in World War 1.

Hori was the first Maori ever to enter the home of Guide Rangi in Rotorua. This was in 1937. Up till then the elaborately carved house was under tapu.
