New Meetinghouse Open

The new meetinghouse at Mangatuna was opened recently. This building replaces the old structure which was destroyed by the storm last April. A large crowd gathered for the opening which also coincided with the 22nd anniversary of the unveiling of the Memorial Gates.

Messrs Henry Ruru, Pomare Kutia, Sonny Kutia of Tolaga Bay, and John Kaua, Chas. Kutia and Jim Maurirere of Gisborne, were six returned men who were at the function.

Conducting the service are, from left, the Reverend Kapa Paenga and Laymen Rewi Pahina and Api Keelan. Speakers on the marae included Mr Titi Tangohau, center right. and Mr Api Crawford, below right.
