This Chevrolet Chevelle was in town recently while on its way to Auckland. It has a top speed of 148 m.p.h. and holds the Kopua (Auckland) standing quarter mile record of 12.8 seconds. It was brought in from the U.S.A. where, at the Lions Raceway in California, similar cars cover the same distance in eight seconds.
It is a 1965 model with a standard 327 h.p. Chevrolet motor. However, because of law requirements, some of its speed had to be reduced before it could be used as a road vehicle.
