There were six entrants in the Royal Overseas League speech contest which was conducted at Ulverstone recently. The subject was "Britain's Role in the Changing Commonwealth." The contestants were, from left, in front, Janet Zame (St. Mary's College), who won the contest, Helen Cull (St. Mary's College), who was second, Linda Humphris, and, at back, Gary Monk (Lytton High), Peter Boshier (Boys' High School), who was third, and Kevin Petersen (Edmund Campion College).

The annual general meeting of Greater Gisborne (Inc.) was held at Ulverstone where the president, Mr H. J. Howard, gave his annual report. In doing so Mr Howard informed the meeting that, through the generosity of debenture holders who had agreed to a request to consider immediate gifting, the Community Public Relations Office was now without debt.
