Young Ian Burgess found this giant puff-ball on Poariki Station quite intriguing. In this picture taken by Frank Burgess we see Ian with the puff-ball which weighed 161bs, was 17 inches across, and a total of 57 inches around.

The Railway Reserve Road running parallel to, and between, Ormond Road and Clifford Street has been causing much concern this winter with its muddy conditions. Originally set aside as an extension for a railway line, it was never used as such. It provides access to residents' garages in this area but would take up a large amount of this year's allocation of road funds to form and seal a new road.

Lexie Renata, 19 Elm Street, who is pictured with her father, managed to get the family car into this tricky position after one of her driving lessons. However all was well, and, as they say, worse things happen at sea.

The first house built under cover by C.R. Taylor Ltd. was recently taken out and transported to its site in Stout Street. The firm has built other structures under cover at their depot in Stanley Road and this saves much time. When the weather is wet, work can be continuous.
