After a journey in from Te Karaka taking two hours, this old grader reached its destination at Machinery and Tractor in Peel Street. For the past few years it has been used on Messrs Holdworth's Waikohu Station doing station road work. Before that it belonged to the Waikohu County Council doing most of its work in the Rere and Wharekopai areas. The machine is a combination of a 1949 Ferguson tractor adapted to a Wehr grader unit, the age of which is anybody's guess. The machine has done yeoman service all these years and is still in good working order.

This part of Valley Road from James Street up towards Howarth Street was unfortunate enough to catch the heavy recent rains just as it was in the process of being worked on with the new drainage and sewerage schemes. Although a sea of mud in this picture, the almost completed scheme will allow the road to be upgraded when residents will have the benefits of the new services and a good road.
