Out and About in Wairoa

The fifteenth birthday of the Plunket Mothers' Club saw an evening of entertainment for its members. Some members performed skits and others entertained with music. Perhaps the highlight of the evening was the parade of wedding gowns modelled by club members. Some 23 dresses were shown.

Local winners in the Kaiapoi knitting competition. They are, at left, Mrs J. B. Howe 1, and above, from left, Mesdames Joan Gordon 2, Joyce Lange 3, and Joan Compton 4. Mrs Howe and Mrs Gordon will compete in the regional finals in Napier.

These two dresses were considered too frail to be worn and were shown in stands. They are of the 1904-1036 period.

Local winners in the Jaycee Atlantic teenage driving contest were Beverley Wilson (overall winner) and Russell Dahm (first boy). There were 20 entries in the contest.
