A sodden ground and a tough game the previous Saturday against the All Japan team probably accounted for the lack of fire in the Poverty Bay team in their annual match against the East Coast.

It was the Bay's ninth win in a row against the coast, the only score being one try by Buster Taylor towards the end of the second half.
