Victoria League

Senior Citizens Day. Despite the change of Commonwealth Day to the same day as the Queen's official birthday, the League continues to celebrate the day (May 24) as its own day by entertaining the district's pioneers. (A senior citizen who has lived 40 or more years in the district). Special guests to the function were the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr and Mrs H. H. Barker, and Mrs E. I. Tombleson, M.P.

Providing a bright programme is the Mangapapa League of Mothers with their "Black and White Minstrel Show".

Mrs D. V. Donaldson is presented with a corsage from Mrs H. H. Barker when it was discovered that her 73rd birthday was on the same day.

93-year-old Mrs D. Ferris was the oldest woman present.

Mrs M. E. Perley (treasurer). Miss N. Cotterill (president), Mrs F. Balfour (afternoon group chairman) and Mrs V. W. Stubbings (chairman of the Intermediate group).

Two very cheerful ladies were Miss R. Stelle and Mrs M. Grimson.

Mrs J. R. Baker really enjoyed the afternoon.

Mr P. C. Piesse was the oldest guest with a birthday in June, when he will be 94.

Mrs A. Cade, Mrs L. Drake and Mrs M. Swainson enjoyed every minute of the afternoon.
