From Mr Chris Deverell, 4 Iranui Road, comes this picture taken near Rawhiti at the Bay of Islands. A quiet and peaceful inlet is overlooked by the house on the hill, which, everyone will be interested to know, belongs to ex-East Coaster and big game fishing personality Kura Beale.

Also from Mr Deverell is this shot of a partly completed Maori canoe made from kauri but never actually finished. It lies in swampy ground near his daughter and son-in-law's (Barbara and Doug Hutton), place at Manawaora which is nine miles from Russell. White lines show shape of canoe in swamp.

This novel and interesting sign is to be seen on a taxi garage in Tolaga Bay. It speaks for itself.

A problem encountered by the harbour board in removing debris from the bank of 30 Stout Street after the recent storm was this: the building on the section takes up the whole width of the section so the trees were cut up, dragged across the river by boat, hauled up the other bank, then trucked away for disposal.
