Pictures From the Past

From Mr W. Porter, 12 Wainui Road, comes this picture taken at Te Kaha in the year 1935. It was common then to use this mode of transport, and if you think that is odd it will also be of interest to know that electric power is only now being reticulated to the area.

These two pictures come from Mr A. J. McIntosh, Pouawa. They show the Motu river bridge of 1906 when the whole area was covered by one of the heaviest snow falls ever recorded. That was on July 15. Two days later the disastrous flood occurred sweeping away half the bridge. The top picture shows the snow covered area and the bottom one shows the inundated district.
