Out And About

With the long hot summer this season, conditions have been ideal for the ripening of crops in general and maize in particular. Three weeks earlier than usual, the maize was ready on Mr Sid Kent's property at Makaraka and, at top, Ernie White's combine harvester is seen gathering the crop, while above, the grain which had been threshed in the harvester in the field, is augered into the truck.

The final pile was driven for the new city bridge across the Waimata River recently, and to help with this significant phase were Mita Hohepa, Bert Hawkin, Ian Rope, Carl Andrews, and Alf Banks, Jim McKay and Ernie Sinton.
