Ernest McKinlay, 14 Coldstream Road, found a new way to make a pen pal when he picked up this bottle and message on Turihau Beach on February 25. It had been thrown off a Richardson freighter, the M. V. Squall, on December 8 by the engineer on board, Harry Baldwin, when passing Castle Point. "If anyone finds this, please drop me a line .....I like writing", concludes the engineer's note.
