The Intellectually Handicapped Children's Society is still waiting on Government approval of their subsidy for the I.H.C. hostel to be erected on the site in Albert Street. A house at 26 Cook Street, which abuts on to the hostel site has been purchased as a residence for staff of the hostel, which we all hope will not be long in being built. This year's appeal week takes place from April 1 to 6 and, at left, is a copy of the society's poster for the appeal.

A former Gisborne resident who now lives in Taupo returned for a visit recently. An auto-gyro enthusiast, he is Sid Lane who brought his machine over and spent some time flying out at Manutuke. In the photo below left, Sid prepares to start the craft while Doug Milligan and local enthusiast Roy Cranswick give a hand. In the picture below right, the auto-gyro is seen in flight as it prepares to land.
