Congratulations to Alistair Lyle, son of Mr and Mrs J. Lyle, Rawiri Street. On February 28 he celebrated his 21st birthday with distinction by gaining second highest points in the junior championship of the Golden Shears contest. The Golden Shears contest was held at Masterton this year as usual and Alistair made a great effort in gaining his placing from 83 other contestants.

A successful competitor at the New Zealand roller skating championships this year was Maria Henderson, 781 Childers Road. She won the New Zealand Marching Cup, the Junior Girls' Freestyle Cup, the Junior Girls' Speed Cup, the Juvenile Cup and the Junior Novice Cup.
