With the approach of the festive season the colourful lights of Gladstone Road give a carnival atmosphere to the city. Soon to be thronged with Christmas shoppers and holiday visitors, the city will once again be host to thousands of tourists.

The lower picture is a new study of the city in late evening light from the look-out on Kaiti Hill. The "great white way" of the main thoroughfare of Gladstone Road dominates the centre of the picture while a clear sky denotes another of Poverty Bay's fabulous fine days.
