Apple Packing

A demonstration of pallet loading of apples for export was held recently at Hudson's Pomona orchard.

The apples are packed and palleted at the grower's orchard, fork-lifted and trucked to the rail, transported to Hawkes Bay in specially designed vans, then held in cool storage until shipping takes place. This new improved method of transport reduces handling to two stages instead of the previous six, thus eliminating chances of damage to the fruit.
