Jamboree Journey

Five Gisborne representatives to the Australian Scout jamboree, to be held from December 27 to January 6 are Graham Stichbury (Kelvin), Graeme Main (Kelvin), Basil Mann (Waiteata), Phillip Lawton (Takitimu) and Graeme King (Waiteata).

The five young men, with the aid of Scouts from their various groups, have been busy raising funds for the trip. Work has included paper drives, and distribution of pamphlets for different business houses. One such was Amalgamated Telehire for whom 6,000 pamphlets were delivered.

Weekend Camp

A combined Cub camp was held at Morere recently and Cubs, numbering 25, from the Kelvin and Te Hapara groups, spent the weekend under the guidance of Gary Mullings, Colin Twyman, Pam Wilson and assistants.

Highlight of the weekend was an eeling expedition, although duty was not forgotten by the boys as the Cubs' Own was held on the Sunday morning.

Here ....

Paul Browning of 215 Stout Street brought in this odd shaped egg for our inspection. It came from an Australorp hen and is decidedly out of shape when compared with the normal egg which Paul also holds.

There ....

David O'Neill, 23 Collins Street, and Bruce Archer, 25 Kowhai Street, found this penguin, dead, in the Turanganui River. The bird bears no apparent cause of death and the boys are having it mounted.
