Where the Boat was Wrecked

A wreck on the rocky shore,. a life in danger, and a midnight rescue by rope up a 100ft cliff....these were some of the elements in a Tolaga Bay thriller early in July. This is the scene of the drama. At right is the coastline half a mile south of Cook's Cove; at left, part of Pourewa Island. The top arrow points to all that is left of the boat, the lower arrows to pieces of debris from the wreck. The boat, a 40ft crayfishing vessel, was owned and manned by Mr E. M. Bradley, of Gisborne. Douglas Dever was the young man who went down the cliff on a rope to effect the rescue.
