The original "homestead" at Mahunga, seen in 1907, was a crude affair constructed from split logs and sheets of iron. In front are Messrs H. S. Briant, owner of the station and father of Mr J. Briant, now of 51 Stout Streetv who made these pictures available, and J. McLeod, then headmaster of Ormond School and later of Central School. At right of the shack is a tilting log bed on which the younger Mr Briant used to sleep.

In 1913 the family moved to more adequate quarters when the present homestead was built.

The first "woolshed" on Mahunga was a group of three tents, surrounded by split log and wire fences.

The site of Bloggs Car Sales in Gladstone Road was once occupied by this large timber, coal, and hardware store. The picture was taken about 60 years ago and was supplied by Mrs L. E. Russell, a daughter of Mr Nield, one of the partners of the business.
